Stream Conditions
Riverkeeper Report
Conewago Creek
October 9th
The stream is very low and clear. Water temperatures are excellent It appears that the
fish have had a good summer although more water is needed at the present time. I'm getting reports on hot flies:
Beetles, Inchworms, and Ants appear to be hot. I caught a 4 inch brookie the other day which I believe has survived from the
stocking. The fish are extremely spooky and it's hard to take more than one or two from an area. Approach from the downstream and
slowly. Sulfur nymphs are hot and I left part of leader with sulfur nymph in a large rainbow when the knot slipped at the
connection.
A few sulfurs in certain areas in the evening (size 18). Stonefly nymphs are active in the
stream in the early morning (Large Black size 10 and Variagated Yellow (Acroneuria) size 10-14). San Juan Worm in sizes 10 through 16 in
colors brown, red, pink, white, and orange. Small streamers: Black Ghost, Wooly Buggers (black and green seem hot) in sizes 14 and the
Little Brook Trout in size 12.
